Dozens of giant flowers grow in a bunch at the end of the stem. The flowers are 7 cm (2.8 inches) wide, with azure petals and a yellow central disk. The flower head is made up of 25 petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight bowl. They are sturdy.

It has a strong scent that smells like a damp log, and it has lots of pollen. It is pollinated by the wind, but is also visited by some specific types of insect.
