Sunset Trumpet Flower

Flower type: Biennial (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This small flower grows up to 5 inches (13 cm) tall. Its orange-yellow stem is thin and straight, and the large, silver leaves are very thick with rounded edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

Each stem splits 6 to 9 times; a single medium-sized flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 2 cm (0.8 inches) wide, with vivid blue petals that gradient shift to subtle red on the outer edge. The central disk is aquamarine. The flower head is shaped like a trumpet made up of 7 widely spaced, narrow petals. They are hardy.

It has a weak scent that smells like bleach, and it has an average amount of pollen. It is a self-pollinator, but is also visited by one species of insect in particular.

It can grow in even the most barren lands.
