Slate Spine Succulent

Succulent type: Leaf succulent (Stores water in its leaves)

This big leaf succulent grows up to 75 feet (22.9 meters) tall. The spear shaped stem is gray, and is covered in dozens of rigid slate spines. The serrated-edged, long, tapering leaves are orange on the edges and olive at the center. Handfuls of them grow from the base like rose petals. The leaves are rigid, but do not detach easily.

It is steady-growing, taking 14 months to reach maturity. Once mature, several flowers with solid pink petals decorated with white dots and a cream central disk grow at the top, reappearing once every 3 years. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of 19 curved petals. It has a weak scent that smells like varnish.

The leaf succulent's skin is thick, the green flesh is smooth, and the slate sap is thin.
