Blackfruit Tree
Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This colossal fruit tree grows up to 56 feet (17.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 49 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has a wide, crooked trunk covered in smooth, light brown bark, and inside, the dense wood is pale brown.
The small bunches of branches trail down across the ground and are covered with handfuls of giant, broad, flat leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are solid black with dull blue streaks.
In early spring, it produces bunches of giant, amber blossoms with triangular petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have a scent that varies in strength that smells like skunk spray.
In early autumn it produces small, cuboid fruit. The fuzzy dull red skin is thin and inedible, and the very soft vivid yellow flesh is sweet and spicy and syrupy. The slate seed is small and is in the centre of the fruit.
The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.
Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with grassy ground between them.
It grows well in the sun and full shade.
