This burgundy moss is commonly found blanketing large areas In rainforests, In marshes, and On trees.
It is small, growing up to 3 inches (8 cm) tall. It forms in thick clumps and they are slow to spread and grow, and is overwhelmingly robust; it can easily endure flooding and draughts.
When mature, emerald crescent-shaped capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early winter to release millions of spores; it can cause allergic reactions.

All of it is said to be part of one single, massive plant.
It can absorb up to 13 times its own weight in water.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
