Redrock Succulent
Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This average-sized caudiciform grows up to 50 feet (15.2 meters) tall. The wispy stem is red, and is covered in hundreds of rigid slate spines. It has a straight, narrow, caramel trunk atop a narrow ball of cracked, exposed roots. The branches are slender and green and are short stubs.
The tattered-edged, asymmetrical leaves are generally hazel. They are hardy, and take some effort to detach.
It is very slow growing, taking 17 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, several flowers with petals that are cyan in the center, azure in the middle and green at the edges grow at the top, reappearing after 8 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is largely flat with 21 widely spaced narrow petals. It has a powerful scent that smells like burning wood.
The caudiciform's skin is rock-hard, the blue flesh is slimy, and the slate sap is thin.
It is very rare outside of a particular area.
