Silverberry
Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 187 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has several long and flexible, straight stems covered in cracked, silver bark, and the wood inside is yellow.
The branches are short and thin that and are covered with large amounts of large, wide, leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are either light grey or bronze, with sky blue dots, frail and soft.
In mid-spring it produces lots of small, grey blossoms with spear shaped petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have no scent.
In late winter broad, flat fruits ripen. The crispy washed-out purple skin is stretchy and edible when boiled; it is sweet and sour, and the soft aquamarine flesh is sour and very dry. The cream seed is very large and is in the centre of the fruit.
It is suitable for making strong rope
The colour changes depends on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline.
