Desert Lily
Flower type: Annual (Stores water in its leaves)This modest-sized flower grows up to 1.9 feet (58 cm) tall. Its cream or beige stems grow from the base of the plant in bunches of 8 and are wispy and straight, and split into several branching stems at the top, and the tiny, yellow leaves are long, narrow with smooth edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.
Each stem splits 5 to 9 times; a single small flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 7 cm (2.8 inches) wide, with petals that are sky blue on the edges and light red at the center. The flower head is largely flat with several tightly layered round-tipped petals. They are hardy.
It has a weak scent that smells like a man, and it has copious amounts of pollen. It is a self-pollinator.
The trunk and branches are covered in large spikes.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
