Desert Sunflower
Flower type: Perennial (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This short flower grows up to 6 inches (15 cm) tall. Its brown stem is wispy and splits into dozens of branching stems halfway up, and the large, orange-yellow leaves are perforated with smooth edges. The leaves alternate on the stem from the base up to about halfway.
Lots of medium-sized flowers grow in a bunch at the end of the stem. The flowers are 3 cm (1.2 inches) wide, with solid peach petals decorated with turquoise dots and a crimson central disk. The flower head is shaped like a tube with 46 raised, round-tipped petals. They are hardy.
It has a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like pot-purri, and it has lots of pollen. It is a self-pollinator.
It absorbs an exceptionally large amount of water each day.
