Perfumed Pleatfruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in its stem)

This small fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 35 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a wide, straight trunk covered in thick, rough, brown-green speckled bark, and inside, the hard wood is silver.

The branches are very long and slender and are covered with small amounts of giant, very thin leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are dull red on the sides and washed-out purple at the center.

In early spring, it produces thousands of small, green blossoms with oblong shaped petals. They are very delicate and have a delicate scent that smells like rich perfume.

In early autumn it produces , pleated fruit. The smooth dark grey skin is delicate and edible when cooked; it is sweet, and the crunchy dull red flesh is sweet and oily. The ashy orange seed is tiny and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with patches of undergrowth between them.

The colour changes depends on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline.
It is suitable for use as a construction material
