Indigo Vine

Climbing plant type: Bine (Grows upwards by winding itself around other objects and plants.)

This small bine is a very fast growing plant, with the largest known specimen reaching a length of 17 feet (5.2 meters) and growing as high as 41 feet (12.5 meters).

It takes 9 months for the emerald stems to mature, by which point they can have a diameter of 1 cm (0.4 inches) and are rough and gnarled.

The circular, soft leaves reach up to 3 inches (8 cm) in length. They are solid blue or indigo, with lilac zig-zags, and have serrated edges.

During late spring, the bine produces thick bunches of large sky blue flowers, and during the mid-summer, after flowering, it produces excessive amounts of tiny fruits.


It is suitable for making strong rope
The bark, wood and leaves are edible.
