It has a narrow, crooked trunk covered in thin, knobbly, gray bark, and inside, the flexible wood is brown.
The abundance of branches trail down across the ground, covered with thick bunches of tiny, gray-green needles. The needles themselves are robust.
In late summer it produces medium-sized, green, spiky-shelled seeds.
The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.
Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with grassy ground between them.
