Twistwood Tree
Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This small fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 20 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.
It has a long and flexible, twisting trunk covered in thin, rough, brown bark, and inside, the light wood is black.
The abundance of branches are short stubs and are covered with large amounts of small, pleated leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of amber that gradient shifts to brown at the top.
In early spring, it produces lots of medium-sized, caramel blossoms with kidney-shaped shaped petals. They detach easily and have a soft scent that smells like rotten egg.
In early autumn it produces large, spherical fruit. The smooth sky blue skin is stretchy and sour, and the slightly crunchy subtle blue flesh is spicy and dry. The slate seeds are small and are bunched at the top of the fruit.
The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.
Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
