Bluefruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in its leaves)

This short fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 21 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a flexible, angular trunk covered in rough, brown-green speckled bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is mahogany-coloured.

The branches are very short and thin and are covered with thick bunches of large, slender, pointed leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either dark grey or purple, with white lines.

In early spring, it produces thick bunches of medium-sized, dull yellow blossoms with long, narrow petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have an overpowering scent that smells like fermented fruit.

In early winter it produces tiny, asymmetrical fruit. The smooth sky blue skin is peel-able and edible when boiled; it is bitter and sour, and the slightly crunchy copper flesh is sweet and dry. The muted green seed is very large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with grassy ground between them.

It is suitable for making strong rope
It releases hallucinogenic smoke when burned.
