Crimson Blossom

This average-sized flower grows up to 1.2 feet (36 cm) tall. Its orange stem is very thick and straight with a curved tip, and the small, blood red and cream leaves are broad, flat with rounded edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

4 to 9 large flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 4 cm (1.6 inches) wide, with petals that are generally blood red; each flower tends to be a variation of this colour. The flower head is shaped like a bowl made up of several raised, round-tipped petals. They are sturdy.

It has a fairly strong scent that smells like sugar, and it has very little pollen. It is pollinated by insects and is particularly attractive to butterflies.
