Azurefern
Shrub type: Coniferous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)This modest-sized shrub grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall and lives for around 50 years. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has many stocky, slanted stems covered in ridged, dark gray bark, and the wood inside is yellow-brown.
The branches are very short and slender with dozens of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of miniature, spear shaped, leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are either azure or amber, with green dots, flimsy and crispy.
In mid-summer it produces hundreds of small, dark red blossoms with long, narrow petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have the faintest scent that smells like mango.
In late autumn small long, narrow fruits ripen. The leathery light grey skin is tough and edible when roasted; it is sweet and sour, and the crunchy ashy green flesh is slightly spicy and dry. The hazel seeds are large and are bunched at the top of the fruit.
