Cyanfruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 45 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 60 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a slender, wonky trunk covered in hard, waxy, mahogany-coloured bark, and inside, the flexible wood is burgundy-brown.

The branches trail down to the ground and are covered with handfuls of large, spear shaped leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are grey with dark brown tips.

In early spring, it produces dozens of giant, cyan blossoms with broad, flat petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are very delicate and have a delicate scent that smells like bonfire smoke.

In early winter it produces , oval fruit. The rubbery blood red skin is delicate and bitter, and the soft azure flesh is spicy and sour and very juicy. The caramel seed is small and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It coexists peacefully with other plants.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
Their seeds have hallucinogenic properties.
