Pink-Red Caudiciform

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small caudiciform grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall. The wispy stem is pink-red, and is covered in thick sheets of fine, white, hair-like spines. It has a wonky, thin, beige trunk atop a thin clump of wrinkled, exposed roots. The branches are thick and pink-red and are long and thin.

The smooth-edged, 9 pointed leaves are found in muted green, caramel and cream varieties. They are resilient, but take little effort to detach.

It is very slow growing, taking 31 years to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with petals that are brilliant orange on the edges and faded yellow at the center, grow at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is largely flat with several tightly layered round-tipped petals. It has a strong scent that smells like petrol.

The caudiciform's skin is thin, the purple flesh is smooth, and the hazel sap is thin.

It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
The colour changes depends on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline.
