Purple Spikevine
Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This enormous caudiciform grows up to 141 feet (43.0 meters) tall. The finger-like stem is gray-green, and is covered in handfuls of flexible yellow spines. It has a straight, narrow, olive trunk atop a slender clump of cracked, exposed roots. The branches are flat and florescent purple and are very short and thick.
The ripped-edged, long, tapering leaves are generally silver. They are tough, but are very difficult to pull away.
It is quick growing, taking 11 months to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with petals that are florescent purple on the edges and faded blue at the center, grow at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is shaped like a heart made up of 19 tightly layered, narrow petals. It has a delicate scent that smells like a newborn baby.
The caudiciform's skin is thin, the faded blue flesh is slimy, and the lime sap is thin and causes upset stomachs if consumed.
The stems are covered in large spikes.
