Copperbell

Flower type: Biennial (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This short flower grows up to 3 inches (8 cm) tall. Its copper stem is wispy and straight, and the tiny, green leaves are spiral with smooth edges. The leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

5 to 9 tiny flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 3 cm (1.2 inches) wide, with solid black petals and a caramel central disk. The flower head is shaped like a trumpet with 50 tightly layered, round-tipped petals. They detach easily.

It has a mildly strong scent that smells like grass cuttings, and it has an average amount of pollen; it can cause allergic reactions. It is pollinated by the wind.

It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
It comes in 13 varieties, each with a different leaf colour.
