Orange Spine Succulent
Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This average-sized caudiciform grows up to 56 feet (17.1 meters) tall. The sickle shaped stem is green, and is covered in thousands of flexible lilac spines. The very thick, orange trunk can grow to as much as 56 feet (17.1 meters) in diameter. Its vivid orange branches are short, rigid and upright.
The wavy-edged, long, narrow leaves are silver and grey. They are robust, but easily come away when pulled.
It is fast growing, taking 2 months to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a handful of flowers, with solid blue petals decorated with azure lines and a dark brown central disk, grow at the top, reappearing after 8 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is largely flat with handfuls of raised narrow petals. It has a powerful scent that smells like fresh linen.
The caudiciform's skin is thin, the yellow flesh is rubbery, and the caramel sap is thin.
Offering it in a bouquet is supposed to bring good luck.
It aggressively steals nutrients from other large plants (but not each other).
