Copperwood
Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This modest-sized tree grows up to 14 meters (45.9 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 205 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has a stocky, angular trunk covered in waxy, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the soft wood is copper-coloured.
The sparse amount of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with small bunches of sticky, giant, circular leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are gentle purple on the sides and bronze at the center.
In early spring, it produces many giant, sky blue blossoms with sickle shaped petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have a mildly strong scent that smells like bleach.
In late summer it forms large, yellow, spiky-shelled seeds.
The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.
Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
