Copperwood

Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This short tree grows up to 4 meters (13.1 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 696 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, twisting trunk covered in silky, burgundy and brown bark, and inside, the very dense wood is brown.

The tangled mess of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with very large amounts of crispy, tiny, perforated leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are either copper, or cream with yellow streaks.

In early spring, it produces dozens of small, orange blossoms with pleated petals. They fall easily and have a fairly strong scent that smells like cotton.

In late summer it forms medium-sized, pale yellow aril (seeds with fleshy covers).

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with patches of undergrowth between them.

It is almost impossible to grow from cuttings.
It is suitable for making strong rope
