Orangefruit Tree
Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in its stem)This small fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 36 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.
It has a knobbly, angular trunk covered in very thick, rough, white with black speckled bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is white with black speckles.
The branches are long and thick and are covered with copious amounts of giant, very narrow and elongated leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are either cream, or orange with yellow patches.
In early spring, it produces copious amounts of giant, pink blossoms with pleated petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have a strong scent that smells like cotton.
In early summer it produces tiny, long, curved fruit. The leathery dark brown skin is tough and extremely bitter, and the crunchy orange flesh is savoury and oily. The crimson seed is tiny and sits at the top of the fruit.
The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.
Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
It is suitable for making strong rope
It can survive a very long time without water.
It coexists peacefully with other plants.
