Indigo

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This small fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 63 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a very thick, straight trunk covered in hard, waxy, brown bark, and inside, the very hard wood is black with white speckles.

The small handful of branches trail down to the ground and are covered with very large amounts of huge, perforated leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are purple on the edges and indigo at the center.

In early spring, it produces bunches of tiny, red blossoms with V-shaped shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a delicate scent that smells like old shoes.

In early winter it produces , long, tapering fruit. The smooth beige skin is thick and savoury, and the crunchy vivid green flesh is sweet and dry. The green seed is tiny and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
The bark is frequently covered in moss.
