Copperleaf Tree

Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This average-sized tree grows up to 45 meters (147.6 feet) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 85 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, wonky trunk covered in very thick, cracked, gray bark, and inside, the very hard wood is dark brown.

The small bunches of branches are very short, thin and wispy and are covered with sparse amounts of leathery, huge, pleated leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are copper and beige.

In early spring, it produces many medium-sized, blood red blossoms with 5 kidney-shaped shaped petals. They are hardy and have a scent that varies in strength that smells like wet dog.

In late summer it forms tiny, intense orange, spiky-shelled seeds.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with patches of undergrowth between them.

It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
