Turquoise

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 16 feet (4.9 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 29 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, angular trunk covered in paper-thin, silky, pine-coloured bark, and inside, the very dense wood is pale brown.

The numerous branches trail down across the ground and are covered with small bunches of large, perforated leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are turquoise on the edges and peach at the center.

In early spring, it produces bunches of large, washed-out green blossoms with sickle shaped petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have a weak scent that smells like citrus.

In early autumn it produces tiny, 8 pointed fruit. The clammy pink skin is thick and salty, and the slightly crunchy black flesh is spicy and syrupy. The white seed is large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with patches of undergrowth between them.
