Blackwood
Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This small tree grows up to 4 meters (13.1 feet) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 174 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has a slender, twisting trunk covered in thin, ridged, dark gray bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is black.
The branches are short stubs and are covered with very large amounts of fuzzy, large, long, tapering leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are solid green or sky blue, with yellow lines.
In late summer it forms giant, blood red seed pods.
The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.
Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with grassy ground between them.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
