Crimson Spine Succulent
Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This large caudiciform grows up to 95 feet (29.0 meters) tall. The thick stem is brown, and is covered in copious amounts of rigid crimson spines. It has a straight, stocky, dark grey trunk atop a thick tripod of waxy, exposed roots. The branches are bulbous and blood red and bronze and are short stubs.
The ripped-edged, slender, pointed leaves are either intense purple or gentle red, with crimson streaks. They are light, but are very difficult to pull away.
It is slow growing, taking 40 years to reach maturity. Once mature, a single flower with petals that are either dark brown or cream, with a yellow center grows at the top, reappearing once every 2 years. The flower head is shaped like a bowl with 35 widely spaced, narrow petals. It has a soft scent that smells like bonfire smoke.
The caudiciform's skin is thin, the florescent green flesh is waxy, and the beige sap is thin and has hallucinogenic properties.
It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
It can survive a very long time without water.
