Clinging Trumpetflower

Flower type: Biennial (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This short flower grows up to 1 inch (3 cm) tall. Its gray-green stems grow in bunches of 6 and are wispy and straight, and the giant, gold or red leaves are long, narrow with wavy edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

Two giant flowers sit at the end of the stem. The flowers are 3 cm (1.2 inches) wide, with solid copper petals and a white central disk. The flower head is shaped like a trumpet with 10 raised, narrow petals. They fall easily.

It has a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like old shoes, and it has excessive amounts of pollen, but it does not cause many allergic reactions. It is a self-pollinator, but is also visited by some specific types of insect.

It is suitable for making baskets and the like
