It takes 4 months for the green stems to mature, by which point they can reach a diameter of 2 cm (0.8 inches) and remain soft and fleshy.
The sickle shaped, clammy leaves reach up to 5 inches (13 cm) in length. They are bronze on the sides and brown at the center, and have smooth edges.
During late spring, the bine produces lots of tiny subtle blue flowers.
It is said to be able to live for hundreds of years.
It is suitable for making strong rope
