Crimsonberry

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in its leaves)

This short fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 64 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a narrow, wavy trunk covered in thick, waxy, mahogany-coloured bark, and inside, the hard wood is black.

The tangled mess of branches trail down across the ground and are covered with very large amounts of miniature, broad, flat leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are either amber, or crimson with pale purple streaks.

In early spring, it produces large amounts of small, crimson blossoms with stiff, pointed petals. They fall easily and have an intense scent that smells like chocolate.

In mid-autumn it produces small, wide fruit. The fuzzy lilac skin is thick and inedible, and the very soft crimson flesh is sour and very juicy. The white seeds are large and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
