Twisting Black Fruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by winding itself around other objects and plants.)

This big fruit tree grows up to 44 feet (13.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 50 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, twisting trunk covered in thin, smooth, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the very dense wood is silver.

The branches trail down to the ground and are covered with copious amounts of miniature, thin leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are generally olive.

In early spring, it produces copious amounts of medium-sized, turquoise blossoms with 2 pointed petals. They detach easily and have a powerful scent that smells like coconut.

In early summer it produces tiny, long, narrow fruit. The soft pink skin is thick and inedible, and the soft light brown flesh is salty and very dry. The brown seeds are small and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between filled with undergrowth.

It is suitable for making paper
It is possible to grow it from cuttings.
