Yellow Spine Succulent

Succulent type: Stem succulent (Stores water in its stem)

This short cactus grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall. The fan-like stem is yellow, and is covered in handfuls of flexible olive spines.

It is steady-growing, taking 22 months to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with alternating petals of turquoise and amber, with a light purple central disk, grow at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of up to 60 curved petals. It has a scent that varies in strength that smells like burning wood.

The cactus's skin is thick, the red flesh is slimy, and the caramel sap is thin and can cause blindness if consumed.

It blooms only at night.
It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
