Greytail Succulent

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small caudiciform grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall. The very thin stem is gray and copper, and is dotted with small dark brown spines. The slanted, green trunk can grow to as much as 1 foot (30.5 cm) in diameter at the top. Its silver or grey branches trail down to the ground and start growing at the top the stem.

The copious amounts of irregular-edged, fan-like leaves are dark grey and white. They are frail, but do not detach easily.

It is slow growing, taking 8 years to reach maturity. Once mature, several flowers with petals that are either yellow or magenta, with a yellow center grow at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is made up of many petals in raised layers. It has a soft scent that smells like freshly washed clothes.

The caudiciform's skin is rock-hard, the drab yellow flesh is waxy, and the purple sap is thin and causes upset stomachs if consumed.

It is difficult to kill and will quickly regrow if it falls or if its limbs are knocked off.
It is suitable for making strong rope
