Aquamarineberry

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 33 years. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has many slender, straight stems covered in knobbly, gray bark, and the wood inside is brown.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright that and are covered with copious amounts of giant, asymmetrical, leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are aquamarine at the bottom and white with dull green lines at the top, soft and flexible and soft.

In mid-spring it produces lots of giant, pale purple blossoms with oval-shaped shaped petals. They detach easily and have an intense scent that smells like alcohol.

In late winter small circular fruits ripen. The fuzzy subtle red skin is tough and very sweet, and the slightly crunchy magenta flesh is savoury and juicy. The brown seeds are large and are scattered throughout the fruit.

It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
