Shadowfruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by winding itself around other objects and plants.)

This short fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 34 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, slanted trunk covered in hard, wrinkled, brown and grey bark, and inside, the flexible wood is brown.

The branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with thick bunches of tiny, spear shaped leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are either purple or black, with green zig-zags.

In early spring, it produces handfuls of large, bronze blossoms with stiff, pointed petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like bonfire smoke.

In early winter it produces large, slender, 5 pointed fruit. The soft crimson skin is delicate and edible when boiled; it is salty, and the crunchy gentle purple flesh is sweet and dry. The cream seeds are tiny and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between filled with undergrowth.

It releases hallucinogenic smoke when burned.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
The leaves are very toxic, and very sweet.
