Lilac

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 52 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a wide, straight trunk covered in cracked, silver bark, and inside, the very hard wood is gray.

The small bunches of branches trail down across the ground and are covered with very large amounts of tiny, stiff, pointed leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are lilac on the sides and red at the center.

In early spring, it produces lots of small, amber blossoms with many layers of petals. They fall easily and have a faint scent that smells like wet dog.

In mid-summer it produces tiny, fan-like fruit. The waxy blood red skin is tough and inedible, and the crunchy lilac flesh is spicy and savoury and sticky. The lime seeds are tiny and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.

The colour changes depends on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline.
It is suitable for making paper
