Silverfruit Tree
Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This huge fruit tree grows up to 55 feet (16.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 60 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.
It has a stocky, straight trunk covered in hard, rough, gray bark, and inside, the light wood is silver.
The branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with sparse amounts of giant, very thick leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are either hazel or aquamarine, with silver edges.
In early spring, it produces large amounts of large, amber blossoms with oval-shaped shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a mildly strong scent that smells like mint.
In late autumn it produces tiny, needle-like fruit. The crispy blood red skin is delicate and sweet and salty, and the soft lilac flesh is bitter and savoury and dry. The blood red seeds are tiny and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.
The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.
Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
It has impressive regenerative properties.
It blooms only at night.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
