Amberberry

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 146 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has many branched, twisting stems covered in knobbly, brown-green bark, and the wood inside is pale yellow.

The branches are short and thin that and are covered with thick bunches of miniature, very thin, leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are amber and peach, frail and soft.

In mid-summer it produces large amounts of medium-sized, faded yellow blossoms with 3 V-shaped shaped petals. They fall easily and have a soft scent that smells like old books.

In late winter large spherical fruits ripen. The smooth drab green skin is thin and edible when cooked; it is sour, and the very soft aquamarine flesh is bitter and syrupy. The green seed is very large and is in the centre of the fruit.

It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
It releases hallucinogenic smoke when burned.
