Indigo Fruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in its leaves)

This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 18 feet (5.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 45 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a sturdy, straight trunk covered in hard, knobbly, brown bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is silver.

The branches are long and slender and are covered with small bunches of large, slender, pointed leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are copper with indigo tips.

In early spring, it produces lots of tiny, pink blossoms with oval-shaped shaped petals. They detach easily and have a delicate scent that smells like old shoes.

In early autumn it produces , long, narrow fruit. The rubbery aquamarine skin is stretchy and inedible, and the very soft hazel flesh is sour and sticky. The dark grey seeds are large and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with clear space between them.

It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
It is possible to grow it from cuttings.
