Spiny Azure Caudex

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This huge caudiciform grows up to 35 feet (10.7 meters) tall. The needle-like stem is green, and is covered in copious amounts of rigid washed-out green spines. The straight, dark grey trunk can grow to as much as 35 feet (10.7 meters) in diameter in the middle. Its moss green branches trail down towards the ground and start growing a quarter of the way up the stem.

The thick bunches of smooth-edged, stiff, pointed leaves are black and azure. They are rigid, and detach easily.

It is quick growing, taking 5 months to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, several flowers with each petal a slightly different shade of orange grow at the top, reappearing after 5 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of 33 petals. It has a strong scent that smells like fish.

The caudiciform's skin is tough, the grey flesh is rough, and the yellow sap is thin.

It is bio-luminescent.
It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
