Copperwood

Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This modest-sized tree grows up to 11 meters (36.1 feet) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 137 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a stocky, straight trunk covered in very thick, ridged, copper-coloured bark, and inside, the very hard wood is pale brown.

The extensive patches of branches trail down across the ground and are covered with copious amounts of smooth, huge, asymmetrical leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of vibrant green or beige that gradient shifts to purple at the top.

In late summer it forms giant, black berries.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with clear space between them.

It out-competes most other plants for nutrients and light.
It is suitable for making paper
