Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This short caudiciform grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall. The finger-like stem is orange-yellow, and is covered in sharp spines. The very thick, yellow trunk can grow to as much as 5 feet (1.5 meters) in diameter. Its light grey and bronze branches are short and thick.
The smooth-edged, very thin leaves are solid dull green with violet edges. They are robust, and detach easily.
It is fast growing, taking 10 months to reach maturity. Once mature, several flowers with alternating petals of cream and pink, with a brown central disk grow at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is shaped like a cube made up of 4 raised, round-tipped petals. It has a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like bleach.
