Flexwood Tree
Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)This big fruit tree grows up to 28 feet (8.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 46 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.
It has a flexible, straight trunk covered in paper-thin, cracked, brown and grey bark, and inside, the flexible wood is black with white speckles.
The tangled mess of branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with very large amounts of tiny, finger-like leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are found in azure, beige and olive varieties.
In early spring, it produces several medium-sized, turquoise blossoms with 3 pointed petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are hardy and have a powerful scent that smells like pine needles.
In mid-summer it produces tiny, circular fruit. The leathery copper skin is delicate and inedible, and the soft yellow flesh is sweet and oily. The pale yellow seed is very large and sits at the top of the fruit.
The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.
Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with patches of undergrowth between them.
It is difficult to kill and will quickly regrow if it falls or if its limbs are knocked off.
It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
