Spineleaf Succulent
Succulent type: Leaf succulent (Stores water in its leaves)This small leaf succulent grows up to 11 feet (3.4 meters) tall. The perforated stem is moss green, and is covered in thousands of flexible lime spines. The pointed leaves are either bronze or red, with turquoise streaks. Large amounts of them grow on stocky, blood red branches that are short and thin. The leaves are light, but detach easily.
It is fast growing, taking 5 months to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a handful of flowers, with petals that are silver in the center, dark grey in the middle and silver at the edges, grow at the top, reappearing after 6 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is largely flat with several raised narrow petals. It has no scent.
The leaf succulent's skin is thick, the caramel flesh is rubbery, and the orange sap is thin.
It spreads easily and often blanket large areas.
