Bloodthorn
Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This modest-sized caudiciform grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall. The spear shaped stem is orange-yellow or azure, and is covered in sharp spines. The wonky, deep green trunk can grow to as much as 5 feet (1.5 meters) in diameter at the top. Its orange-yellow and emerald branches are short, rigid and upright and start growing at the base the stem.
The small amounts of wavy-edged, broad, flat leaves are either subtle orange or crimson, with blood red splotches. They are flexible, but easily come away when pulled.
It is slow growing, taking 26 years to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with solid crimson petals and a blood red central disk, grow at the top, reappearing once every 10 years. The flower head is largely flat with dozens of tightly layered round-tipped petals. It has a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like cigarette smoke.
The caudiciform's skin is thick, the ashy blue flesh is smooth, and the purple sap is thin and causes upset stomachs if consumed.
It is very delicate and is easy to kill.
