Crimsontide Tree

This short fruit tree grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 19 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, straight trunk covered in cracked, yellow-brown bark, and inside, the very hard wood is pale yellow.

The excessive amount of branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with small amounts of huge, needle-like leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are found in turquoise and copper varieties.

In early spring, it produces many medium-sized, crimson blossoms with long, narrow petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are very delicate and have the faintest scent that smells like bonfire smoke.

In early summer it produces tiny, 5 pointed fruit. The leathery peach skin is tough and edible when boiled; it is sour, and the crunchy crimson flesh is spicy and salty and syrupy. The grey seeds are small and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
