This brown moss is commonly found growing in large clumps In heathlands.
It is small, growing up to 2 inches (5 cm) tall. It forms in extensive patches, and is extremely strong.
When mature, emerald heart-shaped capsules grow at the end of long, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the mid-autumn to release hundred of spores; it can cause severe allergic reactions.

It is possible to grow it from cuttings.
It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
The leaves are bland but very healthy.
