Eternal Spikefern

Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small tree grows up to 2 meters (6.6 feet) tall and lives "forever", with many known specimens being tens of thousands of years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, wonky trunk covered in cracked, brown bark, and inside, the dense wood is black with white speckles.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright, covered with handfuls of miniature, gray-green needles. The needles themselves are delicate.

In late summer it produces giant, hazel, spiky-shelled seeds.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

Several parts of the leaf succulent have medicinal properties.
It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
It aggressively steals nutrients from other large plants (but not each other).
